The Pound is situated on the Wales/Herefordshire border, only five miles from the famous book town of Hay-on-Wye. The area offers a wealth of things to keep you occupied; whether it be outdoor pursuits or visiting the many historic towns and villages. If you are looking for ideas we can recommend some of the following activities...

CANOEING
We are literally sat on the banks of the River Wye and canoes can be hired from Hay or Glasbury. Free landing and launching when you stay with us.

WALKING
We are on Herefordshire Trail, near the and Offas Dyke Trail and only a few miles from the wonderful Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons.

CYCLING
From steady cycling with the family to adrenalin fuelled downhilling, we've got it all. Local cycle paths stretch for miles through the countryside

FISHING
There are Championship courses nearby at Kington and Burghill as well as the famous Cradoc Golf Club - just over the border.

HISTORY & HERITAGE
The area has a long and colourful history, and a rich and varied cultural heritage and home to a wealth of castles, churches and cathedrals.

FESTIVALS
Just over the river - the Hay Literature Festival takes place in early Summer.
The Royal Welsh Show takes place in Builth Wells in the last week of July.

HAY ON WYE
A book lovers paradise, famous for its much-loved Literary Festival, Hay is also home to a myriad of independent bookshops, cafés and antique shops.

BLACK & WHITE TRAIL
The trail is a 40 mile circular drive or cycle taking in the most pretty villages with hundreds of timber framed buildings unrivalled in England.

FOOD & DRINK
There is great to food to be had all around! Right on your doorstep is the Boat Inn, famous in the area for its warm welcome and fantastic food!

CIDER COUNTRY
The county of Herefordshire is famous for its cider – visit some of the local producers and learn about the cider making process. Take some home!
